Our Native American Pow-Wow!

On Monday of this week all of the Kindergarten classes got together and we each did a dance around the teepee at our Native American pow-wow!  The kids had a great time dressing up and performing for each other!  Here are some pictures of the students decorating their vests!

After lunch we went next door to Mrs. Thomas's class and the fun got started!

Ms. Suarez and I hope that everyone has a wonderful and safe Thanksgiving and we look forward to seeing all of our friends back at school on Monday!

Pattern Making Fun!

We have been working very hard during our math center time lately learning how to make patterns!  We have been working mostly on AB and ABC patters and the kids are having a great time making them and breaking them apart and putting them back together again!  Here are a few pictures of the wonderful patterns that were created!

Aw Shucks!

Last Monday our class got to go on our field trip to Aw Shucks corn maze in Monroe!  We had a great time going through the corn maze, petting and feeding some animals, and learning about the way people used to farm vegetables!  Here are a few pictures from our trip!

The first thing we did was get to go on a hay ride all around the farm.  We saw a few animals and lots of corn while we were on the ride!

Mrs. Bonnie taught about the way that farmers used to get corn from the fields and everything that they would use the corn for.  We also learned how many foods that we eat contain corn too!

One of our favorite parts of the trip was getting to pet and feed the animals!  We got to feed three sheep and two goats and we also got to see a pig and some wild turkeys!

We all had a great time on the trip and we look forward to our next trip that we will take!

Our New Class Pet!

Ms. Suarez went out last week and bought our class a new pet!  We had a vote to name our new friend and his name is Oscar!  Everyone has enjoyed getting to watch Oscar in his new home!

Early College Visitors

We are lucky at our school to have a partnership with the Union County Early College where some of their freshmen students come to visit our kindergartners several times during the first half of the year.  Our students look forward to seeing the "big kids" every time they come!  The last two times the early college students have brought activities to do outside with our students.  Later on in the fall they will be bringing books and indoor activities to do with them as well.  Here are a few pictures from our latest visit with them!
Alex playing a beanbag game
Rene, Zaria, and Damion waiting their turn to do some bowling!
Jaqueline and Jamirah had fun twirling the ribbon wands.
Everyone always enjoys the parachute activities!!

Teddy Bear Fun!

As you know this week each one of our students has been able to bring in a "special friend" for the week to share with our class.  We have had a great time with our animal friends so far!  Here are a few pictures from things we have done this week.
On Tuesday, we went to the library where Mrs. Lanzy showed us one of her favorite friends as well.  She showed us some books about real bears and taught us some new bear facts!
Here are our friends enjoying the story with their animals!
We also did our first graphing activity of the year!  We sorted gummy bears by their color and then graphed them on our papers.  The best part of course was when we got to eat them at the end!
I think our friends have had a really great time visiting Kindergarten this week!  They will be coming home with your child tomorrow (Friday) to live back at your house!

Please Remember!  There is NO SCHOOL on Monday September 7th for our labor day holiday!  We hope that everyone enjoys their long weekend!

Prizes and Birthdays!

We have also had a few special things happen in the last week!  Today was Danyelle's birthday and we were able to celebrate it with her at school, Happy 5th birthday Danyelle!
Nicholas (on the left) was also one of the prize winners for our grade level last week for the adopt an artist campaign!  Thanks to everyone in our room who helped to raise money for our school!
